The third edition of the European Seniors Championships is currently taking place across two venues in Sofia, where the event is being hosted for a third year in succession by the Bulgarian Tennis Federation.
Over 200 players are taking part in the tournament, which sees singles, doubles and mixed doubles events held, catering for all age categories and split between Bulgaria’s National Tennis Centre and the nearby Dema Club.
A number of the best-known names on the ITF Seniors Circuit are in action, including three world #1s and 26 other Top 10 players. Many of last year's winners are back to defend their titles, including Konstantinos Effraimoglu (GRE, Men's 50), Pierre Godfroid (BEL, Men's 55), Bruno Renoult (FRA, Men's 60), Valentin Raus (ROU, Men's 65), Peter Pokorny (AUT, Men's 70), Rolf Westman (SWE, Men's 75), Angelo Sala (ITA, Men's 80), Biljana Pawlowa-Dimitrova (BUL, Women's 35), Liselot Prechtel (NED, Women's 50), Gundula Weiland (GER, Women's 55) and Heidemarie Oehlsen (GER, Women's 65).
A Grade B1 event on the ITF Seniors Circuit, the European Championships offers 210 ranking points to the winner, making the event the biggest in Europe in terms of points available.
