2014 Christmas Cup upgraded to Category 1 status

Tennis Europe has announced that the 2014 01Properties Christmas Cup has been upgraded to Category 1 status.

The 14 & under Tennis Europe Junior Tour event will be held on indoor acrylic courts at the Alexander Ostrovsky Academy in Khimki, Russia from 06-13 January, and is preceded by a two-day qualifying competition taking place from 4-5 January.

The  01Properties Christmas Cup thus becomes Russia’s second Category 1 14 & Under tournament, alongside December’s Kremlin Cup.

The 2013 Christmas Cup was held in Mytischi and saw Russian players Philipp Klimov and Evgeniya Levashova win the boys’ and girls’ singles events respectively. Levashova went on to win the European Junior Championships and Tennis Europe Junior Masters, finishing the season as the European #1, while Klimov won two other titles and played on the victorious Russian Winter and Sumer Cups teams.

As a Category 1 tournament, the 2014 event will be worth 120 ranking points to the winner and 100 to the runner-up. Both main draws will feature 48 players.

The entry deadline for the tournament is 2pm CET on Tuesday 10th December.
