📢 Latest News - Finals

26.10.2024 - 18:30 - ALEXANDRESCOU REIGNS IN MONTE-CARLO
Yannick Alexandrescou
has ended his Junior Tour career by adding the 16 & Under Junior Masters title to his recent European Championship win.

He wasted no time in asserting his authority on Saturday’s final match, winning 90% of his first service points as he blasted past second seeded Mark Becirovic Novak of Slovenia 6-0 6-1 in just over three quarters of an hour.

The Romanian has played just two individual tournaments on the Tennis Europe Junior Tour this season, and on both occasions proved to be a class apart from his rivals. In Parma he blitzed his way to European Championship glory losing just 22 games in 6 matches.

Here in Monte-Carlo he picked up where he left off, winning all four of his matches in straight sets to complete his sweep of the Tour’s flagship events. Elsewhere, he has also won six ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors tournaments in a season to remember. Alexandrescou was playing in Monte-Carlo for a second consecutive year, having claimed the bronze medal in 2023.

Watch the interview below and see what he had to say about his Tennis Europe journey..

26.10.2024 - 17:20 - KOVACEVIC CAPS INCREDIBLE SEASON WITH MASTERS WIN
Tea Kovacevic
ended her season in style, adding the 16 & Under Junior Masters title to the 14 & Under European Championship and an incredible 10 other singles titles.

Her final opponent was Vlada Razina, one of the few players to beat the Bosnian this year. The pair had met in finals in successive weeks back in April, with the head to head level at one win apiece. On this occasion Kovacevic raced to a 6-0 first set in seemingly no time, but the second was a very different story as Razina began to find her range and coax errors from her increasingly anxious opponent.

It took a tie break to separate them, with Kovacevic holding her nerve – and her serve to claim the title on her first match point.

Kovacevic has been arguably the Junior Tour’s standout player of 2024, wracking up series of impressive feats. With 12 titles from 14 finals played across two age groups, the 14-year old qualified to compete in both age categories at the Masters, electing to play the 16 & Under event.

Talking to us after the match, a delighted Kovacevic said, “This feeling is unbelievable. I’m the proudest of myself that I can be!” Check the full interview on Instagram…

26.10.2024 - 15:30 - WATSON WRAPS UP BRITISH DOUBLE

Scott Watson has claimed the 14 & Under boys’ title at the Junior Masters, completing a British sweep of the titles in the younger age category. He outlasted Spain’s Toni Escarda Piñeiro to level their head to head at one match apiece, with both encounters being protracted three set battles.

First blood at the Monte-Carlo Country Club went to the top seeded Brit, who took the first set 6-3. Neither player was able to claim an advantage in the second set until Escarda let rip on a string of returns at 5-4 to break Watson’s serve and level the match. Watson did well to reset, racing through the final set to establish a 5-1 lead before eventually claiming the match – and his biggest title to date – 6-4 3-6 6-3.

Watson has spent much of the year close to the top of the Race to Monte-Carlo leaderboard, with a title at the Cat.1 event in Bucharest and a silver medal at the European Championships last month. In contrast, #11 Escarda was a late entrant, invited to take part when #1 Stan Put withdrew just prior to the tournament.

The win makes Watson the first British boy to win the Masters since Joshua Sapwell in 2010, and completes a unique 14 & Under double, following Megan Knight’s win the girls’ competition.

26.10.2024 - 13:20 - PLAY TO RESUME
Good news! The courts have been prepared and play will resume in approximately ten minutes, at 13:30 CET.

26.10.2024 - 12:10 - PLAY SUSPENDED
As the torrential rain continues, play is currently suspended on both courts due to an accumulation of water. Ground staff are hard at work attempting to resolve the situation. Check back for more information soon.

26.10.2024 - 11:30 - KNIGHT BREAKS NEW GROUND FOR GREAT BRITAIN TO CLAIM TITLE

Megan Knight
is the new Tennis Europe Junior Masters 14 & under champion, and the first British girl ever to win the season-ending tournament.

Unseeded, and a late entry to the event, Knight was the week’s surprise package. Playing confident, focused tennis, she beat three higher ranked players to top her round-robin group and set up the meeting with Czech third seed Katerina Zajickova.

Played in difficult conditions during a raging storm, either player would have been forgiven for a lack of focus. The rain is no novelty to Brits though, and Knight began in determined fashion, breaking twice to take the first set 6-1. The second was tighter, with the pair neck-and-neck until the final stages. Zajickova saved two match points but the third was the charm for Knight.

She told us, “It was a good match, a high level. Of course, the conditions were tough. The court got heavy and the ball was heavy so it became more of a tactical game, to see who could outlast the other.”

Knight seems to have an affinity for elite end of season events. She was last year’s finalist at the 12 & Under Festival in Mallorca and now wins the Junior Masters at her first attempt. The win is just her second Junior Tour title of the season, having previously triumphed at the grass court tournament at Raynes Park.

Zajickova also ends her season with one title, though she also claimed two Super Category doubles titles and a European Championship doubles gold medal. We’re looking forward to seeing more of both players.

26.10.2024 - 09:50 - WEATHER WARNING
Bad news from Monaco, where the late autumn sun has given way to black skies and heavy rain. With play unlikely to be possible today on any of the uncovered courts, organisers have been hard at work over night preparing the club's two covered courts for today's final matches. Court 18 will feature the four finals, while the placement matches will all be played on the adjoining Court 17, in a shortened format. Check the updated Order of Play here. 24.10.2024 - 19:10 - ROMERO CALVO UPSETS EUROPEAN CHAMP GIAMBELLI
The newly crowned European 16 & Under champions had contrasting fortunes on Day 2. Tomorrow he will face Gonçalo de la Rosa in a winner-takes-all match, the victor of which will compete in Saturday’s final.

In a match between two in-form players who had won their most recent Junior Tour events, Parma girls’ champion Carla Giambelli was outlasted by Spain’s Selena Romero Calvo, who fought back from the loss of the opening set to eventually win a final set tie break after two and half hours of play. 22.10.2024 - 21:00 - ANOTHER ACTION-PACKED JUNIOR SCHOOL SUCCESS
This year’s Monte-Carlo special edition of the Tennis Europe Junior School touched on various topics. Europe’s 32 top junior players were treated to a school which included talks on Agents & Sponsorship as well as technology in sport.

Dunlop representative Olivier Lesimple was on hand to field questions from players about agents and what they look for in players.

Avishay Livne from another Tennis Europe partner, Baseline Vision, also gave a presentation and fielded questions regarding line calling technology and statistical analysis of tennis matches/training provided by this interactive tennis machine.

The players enthusiastically participated in both Q&As. Plus, they took on each other in four groups (B14, G14, B16, G16) answering a quiz as well as coming up with some of their own tennis trivia questions for the other groups. Plenty of fun was had and in the end the Boys’ 16&U team were the narrow winners over the G14, winning a bag of goodies to be shared amongst the players. Of course all players left the Junior school with their welcome pack from this year’s event.

The Junior school took place after the opening ceremony and brought to a close the program of preliminary events which served as a prelude to the main event which kicks off tomorrow morning.
