157 players from 40 Tennis Europe member nations are in Most, Czechia, to participate in the European 14 & Under Championships from 9-15 September.
13 singles and 14 doubles world #1s feature among the previous winners of this event, with some of the hottest names in professional tennis – including Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek and Holger Rune - having won titles in the past ten years. The boys’ and girls’ singles champions will automatically qualify to compete at the elite season-ending Tennis Europe Junior Masters tournament in Monte-Carlo from 22-26 October.

15.09.2024 - 15:00 - DOUBLE GOLD FOR THE HOME COUNTRY
Top seeds Jana Kovackova and Katerina Zajickova refused to let Austria’s Lea Haider-Maurer and Anna Pircher take the gold in the doubles final. Despite losing a tough singles final earlier, Kovackova found the energy to team up effectively with her friend and compatriot Zajickova. Together they secured the victory in less than an hour, keeping the title at home after a 7-5 6-3 match, which was played indoors due to heavy rain.
They will join the celebrations of Pavel Dufek & Matyas Marsik, who claimed the boys' doubles gold medals yesterday. Czech players have consistently dominated the 14 & Under doubles championship in recent years, winning either the boys’ or girls’ titles (or both) in 8 of the last 10 editions.
15.09.2024 - 12:20 - KOVACEVIC & PUT CROWNED EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!
The girls’ final was a memorable battle, as one might expect from arguably the two best players on the Junior Tour right now. Jana Kovackova has dominated the 14 & Under circuit for some time. Although the Czech has played this age category sparingly this year, the defending Junior Masters champion has won two Super Category events (Stockholm and Maia), a 16 & Under Category 1 (Torello), and played a part in the victorious Czech Summer Cups team.
Tea Kovacevic meanwhile has racked up more Junior Tour titles than any other player this season, with an astonishing nine tournament wins before today, across the 14 and 16 & Under age categories, and a starring role on the ITF/Tennis Europe Touring Team.
The first set was as tight as can be, with the home player eventually edging a 16-point tie break to claim the advantage. Kovacevic steeled herself for what was to be a long battle (the match lasted 2 hours 22 minutes), breaking early in the second set and maintaining her advantage to level 6-4.
The Bosnian scored a glorious passing shot winner to break at the start of the third set before racing to establish a 5-1 lead. Victory looked certain until Kovackova found another gear, serving a masterclass of deft changes of pace and clever angles to recover to 4-5. It was at that point that Kovacevic put a stop to the comeback, breaking the Czech’s serve to secure the title and etch her name into the history books as the first Bosnian ever to win a European 14 & Under title. The boy’s final finished just 30 seconds after the girls, with a very similar storyline. Stan Put made a dream start to the match, wasting no time in clinching the first set without the loss of a game against an out-of-sorts Scott Watson. Having survived several three-set scares throughout the week, the Brit steadied his nerves and made a characteristically gritty comeback, breaking at the start of the second set and holding on to level the match at 0-6 6-4.
The final set saw both players attempting to outfox their opponents, with drop shots and lobs employed with increasing frequency. Put in particular made excellent use of his variety, executing a number of killer drop shots to race to a 5-1 lead. Watson has shown several times this week that he is never more dangerous than when playing from behind, and once again managed to raise his game to break, winning three consecutive games to reach 4-5.
Under pressure, Put began the tenth game with a double fault as he served for the match for a second time, raising British hopes of another break. If he felt any nerves though, they were not on show, as Stan rolled off several confident points to hold serve, falling to the ground with joy as he became the second Dutch winner of the boys’ title in the last three years, following in the footsteps of 2022 winner Thijs Boogaard.

15.09.2024 - 09:30 - HEAD TO HEADS
Both the boy's and girls' finalists have met just once before, with the higher ranked player having come out on top on both occasions. Scott Watson and Stan Put met way back at the end of 2022, when Watson scored a 6-3 7-6 win at the 12 & Under Festival.
Jana Kovackova and Tea Kovacevic encoutered each other more recently, at the Super Category Maia tournament ealier this year. On that occasion Kovackova won an easy first set before being pushed hard for a 6-0 7-6 win.
All four players have come a long way since those meetings though. While Kovackova has been ranked #1 in the Race to Monte-Carlo (where she is the defending champion) most of the year, nobody has won more Tour titles this season than Kovacevic, who has accumulated 9 across two age categories.
Stan Put's greatest moment came in Milan this year, when he announced his presence among the elite players by winning the prestigious Avvenire titles in singles and doubles. Meanwhile, Scott Watson's most recent triumph was winning singles and doubles at the Category 1 Dr. Oetker Trophy in Bucharest.

14.09.2024 - 20:45 - GOLD FOR HOSTS IN BOYS' DOUBLES FINAL
Fourth seeded Czechs Pavel Dufek & Matyas Marsik (pictured) cliched a tense three set thriller to claim gold for the host nation in the boys’ doubles. They outlasted Spaniards Izan Banares Lasala & Toni Escarda Piñeiro 4-1 1-4 10-8 to become the third Czech winners of the title in the last four years.
Earlier in the day, Banares Lasala & Escarda Piñeiro had come back from a set down to beat third seeds Rickard Krizan and Max Lorincik (SVK) 5-4 4-0 10-6, while the Czechs beat Aatu Niemelä & Alex Tuomolin of Finland to ensure bronze medals for the Finns and Slovaks.
Saturday’s girls’ doubles final will see top seed Jana Kovackova & Katerina Zajickova (CZE) take on Lea Haider Maurer & Anna Pircher of Austria. Both teams had to play two matches today to catch up, but the matches that counted saw the Austrians beat Oliwia Kadzielska & Aleksandra Zaplawa, who had to be content with bronze medals, while the Czechs easily ended the run of Slovaks Laura Masrykova & Viktoria Novakava, consigning them to bronze for the loss of just two games.
Sunday sees the rest of the event’s finals take place. Play begins at 09:30, with the boys and girls’ singles finals up first, played simultaneously. Top seeded home hope Jana Kovackova will be hoping to become the first two-time gold medallist since…sister Alena two years ago, as she takes part in both the singles and doubles finals. She’ll take on the Tour’s most in-form player, Tea Kovacevic (BIH) in singles before returning to the court for the doubles final. Seventh seeded Stan Put (NED) will face Scott Watson of Great Britain in the boys’ final. Put will be hoping to become the second Dutch boy to win in Most in three years, while incredibly no British boy has ever triumphed in this age category.

14.09.2024 - 14:00 - KOVACKOVA & KOVACEVIC REACH FINAL STAGE
Top seeds Jana Kovackova and Tea Kovacevic have proven their dominance, securing their spots in the final and solidifying their status as title contenders.
Kovackova faced a tough challenge from Sophie Triquart, especially in the second set. After dropping the first set, Triquart took more risks and took a 5-2 lead. However, Kovackova fought back, levelling the score. Triquart eventually secured the set 7-5, but Kovackova regained control and dominated the final set, winning 6-3 5-7 6-0.
In the final she’ll face Tea Kovacevic, who scored a 6-4 6-3 win over Laura Chlumska. Kovacevic’s had an impressive run this year, winning four 14&U singles titles and five 16&Unders.
With both players in top form, tomorrow’s match promises to be a thrilling contest to decide the champion.
14.09.2024 - 13:05 - WATSON & PUT SET UP BOYS' FINAL
Britain’s Scott Watson will play Stan Put (pictured) of Netherlands for the gold medal on Sunday after both players posted surprisingly easy semi-final wins.
Put was the first player to book his spot, accelerating away France's Pablo Pradat after a 10-game first set to win eight games in a row and seal the match 6-4 6-0 in just over an hour. The players had met twice before, but this time the French 9th seed was no match for the Les Petits As runner-up, who breezed confidently though and will hoping to become the second Dutch winner of the title in the last three years, following in the footsteps of Thijs Boogaard in 2022.
He’ll next face Scott Watson, who won the all-British tie over Niall Pickerd-Barua. Despite a 0/2 Head to Head record, Watson dominated his Summer Cups teammate throughout, serving out to love to secure a straightforward 6-3 6-1 win in exactly 90 minutes.
Watson and Put have met once before in singles competition, with the Brit winning at the 2022 12 & Under Festival in Mallorca. Both have progressed significantly since then. Not only are a gold medal and 250 ranking points on the line for the winner, but a guaranteed place at the Junior Masters in Monte-Carlo.

14.09.2024 - 09:50 - SATURDAY PREVIEW
Time for the semifinals! Courts are still wet from yesterday's rain, so play will not begin before 11:30. Until then, let’s have a quick look of today’s action:
The boys' semifinals promise to be exciting. British players Niall Pickerd-Barua and Scott Watson are both ranked high in the Race to Monte-Carlo rankings. Currently, Pickerd-Barua leads 2-0 in their Tennis Europe Junior Tour head-to-head matches, but let’s see if Watson can claim victory this time.
As for Pablo Pradat (FRA) vs. Stan Put (NED), they’ve faced each other four times, with both players winning twice.
In the girls' draw, top seed Jana Kovackova (CZE) will take on Sophie Triquart (GER), the only unseeded player left in the final four. They’ve met on court just once before, but for a doubles match at the Winter Cups this year.
Second and third seeds, Tea Kovacevic (BIH) and Laura Chlumska (CZE), first faced each other in February at the Super Category event in Stockholm, where Kovacevic won in two sets. Today, it’s Chlumska’s chance to even the score.

13.09.24 - 20:45 - NEXT STOP: SEMIS
As expected, the weather in Most created challenges for both players and organizers. While three out of the four boys' doubles teams who will compete for a spot in the finals have been confirmed, the remaining semifinalists are still to be decided.
Luckily, though, we do know the semifinalists on the singles draws, and tomorrow is set to be a day packed with thrilling matches to watch. From an all-British showdown and the surprising run of an unseeded player who has made it into the final four, the stage is set for a day full of intense competition.
Matches will begin at 10 AM, don't miss the action as these young talents give it their all for a coveted place in the final.
13.09.24 - 17:30 - TOP THREE SEEDS REACH SEMIFINALS
Today's upset in the girls' draw came from Sophie Triquart of Germany (pictured), who ended hopes for an all-Czech semifinal. She faced fifth seed Katerina Zajickova, an opponent she had previously lost to at the Winter Cups in February. This time, the German turned the tables with a solid 6-1 6-4 victory.
Speaking of the Czechs, both Jana Kovackova [1] and Laura Chlumska [3] advanced to the semifinals, securing a medal for the host country. Kovackova had a quick 6-2 6-3 win, while Chlumska faced a tougher challenge against Ayse Bal (TUR) [10]. After winning the first set, Chlumska lost the second 0-6 but managed to regain her momentum, taking the third set 6-4. She said, "It was a really tough match for both of us and we both had our ups-and-downs like every match. It wasn’t easy to play in the rain, also the balls were so heavy. The conditions were challenging for both of us but I’m really glad that I managed to win even though I wasn’t 100% ready to play a tough match like this."
For tomorrow, I don’t expect too much from myself. I just want to try to play the best tennis that I can and leave everything out there and just fight for every point and we’ll see what happens
Tea Kovacevic (BIH) [2] ended the impressive run of Paola Piñera Celorio (ESP), who had previously upset the #9 and #7 seeds on her way to the quarterfinals.
Three out of the four semifinalists are the top three seeds, reaffirming their status as strong contenders for the title.
13.09.24 - 13:00 - PICKERD-BARUA & WATSON SET UP ALL-BRITISH SEMI-FINAL
We predicted a possible upset based on the two easy wins Spain’s Izan Banares Lasala had scored over second seed Niall Pickerd-Barua in recent months. However, the British player spectacularly turned the tables today, conceding just three games in just over an hour of play to guarantee himself a bronze medal at least and be the first player to book his spot in the semi-finals. After the match, he told us, “I know Izan is a very good player and it was not going to be easy. I have lost to him twice before, so I had to be on my feet, literally. But I felt confident walking onto the court. I played to my strengths and it worked. The scoreline doesn’t describe the battle very well because he played well too but I think I just played better today."
The other quarter-finals all turned into three-set tussles. Pickerd-Barua’s next opponent will be compatriot Scott Watson (pictured). At #2 and #3 in the rankings respectively, the Summer Cups teammates know each other’s games well, as evidenced by their most recent meeting, an extended three set battle on the grass courts of Raynes Court won by Pickerd-Barua. Watson progressed with a come-from-behind win over Poland’s Sebastian Tejerina, 2-6 6-3 6-3
As the rain started to fall, Stan Put (NED) secured his place in the semis with a 7-5 1-6 6-4 win over home hope Oliver Pavel Dufek on the centre court. The Dutch player has been having an impressive season, with titles in Helsinki and Milan Avvenire, and currently stands at fifth in Race to the Junior Masters.
The rain delay has left the last of the quarterfinals on a knife edge, as Toni Escarda Piñeiro of Spain was serving to stay in the match against French 9th seed Pablo Pradat when play was suspended. When they resume, the Spaniard will be serving at 5-7 6-4 4-5 0-15.
13.09.24 - 08:50 - QUARTERFINALS PREVIEW
It’s quarterfinals day at the European Junior Championships, and there are some great matches to look forward to…if the weather is kind. Sadly there is a 95% chance of heavy and prolonged rain today, meaning that the chances of completing the schedule are slim.
Today’s cover star on this page (above), top seed Jana Kovackova, faces Aleksandra Zaplawa (POL), She already holds a 2/0 head to head record on her rival, and also has the home centre court advantage.
There are several intriguing boys’ matches, none more so than our match of the day featuring two of this summer’s best players. Les Petits As finalist Izan Bavares Lasala of Spain has been in good form recently, reaching the Barcelona final. The fifth seed will be looking to oust Niall Pickerd Barua has been in the top five of the race to Masters rankings all year. 12.09.24 - 20:25 - PIÑERA CELORIO MAKES HER MARK
Thursday's Player of the Day award goes without a doubt to Spain’s Paola Piñera Celorio. Unseeded in both competitions, she had a hand in two of the day’s biggest upsets. In singles, she lost just one game to seventh seeded Maria Markina (LAT).
After a short break, she returned to the court with team-mate Paula Cortes Medrano and conceded just one game to the promising Israeli twelfth seeds Daniel Baranes & Ofir Manhard, blasting their way into the last sixteen 6-1 6-0.
Otherwise the afternoon’s matches largely went with form, save for a few doubles upsets. Here are the most notable results:

12.09.24 -17:20 - BAL FLIES THE FLAG FOR TURKEY
Ayse Bal of Turkey made it to her first European Championship quarter final with a slight upset over eighth seed Polina Sliar. The #10 overcame a second set jitter to outlast her Ukrainian opponent 6-2 1-6 6-1 and advance to play third Laura Chlumska (CZE). The Czech won their only previous singles match at Les Petits As this year, but was struggling today, coming through her match 6-2 6-1 7-5.
Bal commented, “Today was a very tough match. I played perfect in the first set and managed to win 6-2. When I lost the second set 6-1 I decided to focus on the final set because it was so equal and I won 6-1. Tomorrow I play against Laura and again it will be a great match.”
12.09.24 -12:40 - KOVACKOVA ADVANCES, RADU UPSET IN ROUND 4
Top seed Jana Kovackova (CZE) is still yet to be troubled, booking her quarter final spot with a 6-2 6-1 win over 13th seed Keisija Bernzina (LAT) early on Thursday. Unseeded Paula Piñera Celorio of Spain conceding just one game in upsetting seventh seeded Marina Markina (LAT).
A huge shock on the boy’s side saw fourth seed Andrei Radu (ROU) claim just one game against #14 Pvale Dufek (CZE). Seventh seed Stan Put (NED) adavanced again for the loss of just two games, while #5 Izan Bañares Lasala (ESP) continued his march with a 6-3 6-0 win over Alexandrs Avgeris (GER). Britain’s Scott Watson fwas pushed to the limit before outlasting Alexandr Tiutchenko (UKR) 6-4 5-7 6-0.
This afternoon’s action includes third seed Laura Chlumska (CZE), second seed Tea Kovacevic (see match of the day preview below), sixth seed Lea Haider-Maurer (AUT) and a plethora of doubles matches. Stay tuned to the live streaming to follow the action.
12.09.24 - 08:30 - ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE QUARTERFINALS
Day 4 is about to begin and is likely to be a long one, with some very interesting matches ahead. If the weather cooperates, we should know the final eight singles players by the end of the day.
At the 14 & Under international level, it's unusual for players to have faced each other multiple times, but Tea Kovacevic (BIH) [2] and Andreea Olariu (ROU) [14] have already built quite a rivalry in the 12 & Under category. They are meeting for the first time in the Tour's middle age group today, promising an exciting match to watch.

11.09.24 - 20:15 - KOLEV BATTLES BACK FOR VICTORY & MAJOR UPSET
Plamen Kolev of Bulgaria caused one of the major upsets today, coming back from a set down to defeat sixth seed Johann Nagel-Heyer (GER) 2-6 7-5 6-1. Next he will face ninth seed Pablo Pradat (FRA), who has breezed through his matches so far, dropping just 4 games in total.
Brit Niall Pickerd-Barua [2] and Spaniard Izan Bañares Lasala [5] didn’t have an easy start, each needing to recover from a set down to secure their places in the next round.
In the girls’ singles, after Lydia Panagiotidou (GRE) took out fourth seed Maria Valentina Pop (ROU), she continued her strong run with a 6-2 6-3 win over Elizaveta Anikina (EST). Meanwhile, Paola Piñera Celorido (ESP) claimed victory against ninth seed Daniella Britton (GBR) 6-4 7-5.
Doubles action also took the stage today, with several matches requiring a match tiebreak to determine the winners. However, some matches were suspended due to rain and the ensuing darkness, and will continue tomorrow.

11.09.24 - 08:30 - WEDNESDAY PREVIEW
The Schedule is almost back on track, after a tricky couple of days. Just a handful of second round matches are due to be completed – and are scheduled as the second match on many courts. However, the forecast for Wednesday is somewhat mixed once more with some more rain expected. Play is expected to begin on time at 9am though, and today’s schedule also includes the first doubles matches of the tournament and the start of the ‘Bonus’ (formerly known as consolation) draws.

10.09.24 - 21:15 - SECOND ROUND TO CONTINUE TOMORROW
Day 2 began with rain delaying matches and ended with darkness suspending others.
2023 Junior Masters champion and one of home's favourites Jana Kovackova cruised through her match against Slovakia’s Sara Kovacevic, winning 6-0, 6-1. Fellow Czechs Laura Chlumska [3] and Katerina Zajickova [5] also advanced to the third round with comfortable wins.
Maria Valentina Pop, seeded second, won the first set against Greece's Lydia Panagiotidou but couldn't maintain her momentum, dropping the second set. Their match will resume tomorrow morning.
On the boys' side, Spain's Toni Escarda Piñeiro outlasted Britain’s top seed Eric Lorimer, saving four match points to secure the victory. Scott Watson (GBR) also found himself on the brink of defeat, down 3-5 in the third set, but rallied to win in a tie-break.
Other upsets today included 12th seed Lucas Alexandru Milos (ROU), who lost 6-4, 6-4 to Greece's Alexandros Avgeris, and 15th seed Max Lorincik (SVK), who was defeated by Poland’s Blazej Krzysko.
According to tomorrow's schedule, the remaining Round 2 matches will start the day, followed by Round 3 matches and the opening of the doubles draw.

Top seed and rankings leader Eric Lorimer (GBR) becomes the biggest name to be upset today, as he was outlasted by Spain's Toni Escarda Piñeiro who saved four match points before securing a 6-3 2-6 7-5 victory. There's another rain interruption in Most, so let's take a look back in time... Did you know that former singles winners at the European 14 & Under Championships have gone on to accumulate an incredible 87 Grand Slam singles titles? Eight of those ten players also went on to become world #1, including record breaker Novak Djokovic and current #1 Iga Swiatek.
10.09.24 - 09:00 - FIRST OPPONENT: THE WEATHER
A very mixed day is predicted, weather-wise, with action due to begin at 09:30. The good news is that this morning's grey skies are expected to clear gradually, ahead of a sunny afternoon.
While we wait for action to begin we've uploaded a ton of photos from yesterday's opening ceremony, which was held indoors. Check them and see if you can find your team. Great Britain (pictured) is among the favourites for a medal here in Most, with the team featuring the entire European Top 3 boys, Eric Lorimer, Niall Pickerd-Barua and Scott Watson.
Day 1
09.09.24 - 21:00 - MONDAY RECAP
Day 1 got underway at just after 1:30 pm, and it was a race against time to get through as many matches as possible before darkness started to set in around 7:30 PM. So with just 6 hours of play today, only 29 of the 64 programmed matches were completed. The highlight of the day was 33rd-ranked Toni Escarda (ESP) defeating 24th-ranked Patrick Breen (IRL) 6-1 5-7 6-4. Other familiar names to make it to R2 include Grace Bernstein (SWE), Luys Calin (GER), Nikol Nuneva (BUL) and Ofir Manhard (ISR).
Round 2 matches kick off tomorrow, along with today’s postponed/interrupted matches with all the doubles now planned to start on Wednesday. Tomorrow will see the top seeds Eric Lorimer (GBR) and Jana Kovackova (CZE) as well as Izan Bañares (ESP), Stan Put (NED), Tea Kovacevic (BIH), Anastasiia Nikolaieva (UKR) and many more take to the court.
These difficult conditions have certainly caused challenges for the organizers, but they have handled the delays impressively. The players and their teams have also adapted, spending their downtime on social media and using indoor courts for extra training sessions. It is expected to be cloudy with sunny spells tomorrow, however more rain is forecast for later in the week. Watch this space for updates.

Organisers have confirmed that no play will take place in Most - where it is still raining - before 13:00 today.

09.09.2024 - 09:15 - RAIN DELAYS START OF PLAY
This is the scene in Most this morning, as heavy rain over night has left the courts waterlogged. The opening ceremony (9:30am) has been moved to indoor courts, and after that we'll have an update on the start of play, previously scheduled for 10am.

08.09.2024 - 21:00 - JUNIOR SCHOOL: PREPARING FOR LIFE AS PROFESSIONALS
Today’s Tennis Europe Junior School class hosted over 120 attendees for a special session of fun-filled games and quizzes. The ubiquitous theme of ‘media’ was at the crux of the presentation however that did not prevent from players having fun at the interactive ’game show’ section taking on a 'greatest hits' of junior school topics including social media, nutrition, hydration, warm-up, sponsors and even trending songs!
Designed to help prepare young athletes for life as professional tennis players, the School is the only educational programme to be endorsed by the sport's governing body, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the professional tours, the ATP and WTA.
Sunday's class was a perfect way to disconnect from training and reconnect with some of the subject matter tackled at the 13 on-site classes to have been held so far this year, ahead of tomorrow's first day of play. Anticipation and excitement are in the air in Most, Czechia, where a strong field has gathered for the 48th edition of the European 14 & Under Championships. The entire Top 10 boys, and 8 of the Top 10 girls will be in action.
The weather forecast is mixed, with patchy rain predicted through the week, and temperatures expected to plummet from today's 29º to a possible low of 12º on Thursday.
