The European Senior Club Championships have taken place, returning to the calendar for the first time since 2019.
This year’s edition was held for two consecutive weeks at the Megasaray Club Belek in Antalya, Türkiye, where the event was hosted by the Turkish Tennis Federation. 81 teams from 17 nations took part in the popular competition which was awarded ITF World Tennis Masters Tour ranking points.
Week One of the event saw senior players in the 30 to 50 & Over categories. The medalists for the 30 & Over category made the home country proud, as all winning clubs were from Türkiye. It was also the first time that this age group played at the Championships.
On the men’s side, St George's Hill LTC of Great Britain won the 35s title, with former Davis Cup champion and ATP Top 20 player Dominic Inglot as part of the team. Mete Tenis Kulübü of Turkey won its first ever European title at the 40 & Over category, while St. Valentin of Austria (a team which featured another former Top 20 ATP star, Stefan Koubek) finally won the gold medal after two consecutive years of being the runner-up at the 45 & Over. Argayon of Belgium adds one more M50 gold medal next to the one from 2018.
The women’s event was one for premiers as well. The 35s title was won by Real Club de Tennis Barcelona of Spain, its seventh European title overall. Hazelwood Sports Club of Great Britain (W40) and Match Ball Country Club Firenze of Italy (W45) won their first-ever European titles. Great Britain’s Byfleet LTC claimed its second title following the 2018 edition, this time for the 50 & Over category.
During the second week at the Megasaray Club Belek the center stage was taken by the super seniors: the 55 & Over to 70 & Over age categories. The Over 55 men’s title was claimed by Real Club de Tennis Barcelona, their second of the Championships, and first ever first Men’s gold medal. As for the other age categories, there were three first-time European champions - Tennis Natisone ASD of Italy (M60), Royal Smashing Club Nivellois (M65) and Longchamps TC (M70) of Belgium.
On the women’s side, only the 55 & Over event was held. The title went to Club de Campo Villa de Madrid of Spain, after three consecutive years of being the silver medalist. Nonetheless, it’s the third gold medal that goes to the Spanish club, this time following a 2-1 win against Lidingö Tennisklubb of Sweden.
