Tennis Europe has announced the suspension of all junior tournaments until the week of 31st July, 2020.
The European Junior Championships for players aged 14, 16 and 18 & Under have therefore been postponed. Tennis Europe is currently working with organisers from the three venues in Czech Republic, Russia and Switzerland to establish new dates for the Junior Tour’s flagship event in September.
The move is in line with today’s decision by the ITF to extend its suspension of all international tournaments until the end of July.
Europe’s 50 tennis nations are currently taking tentative steps to restart tennis activities, as highlighted by Tennis Europe’s ‘Return to Tennis’ tool. At present, play is possible in 36 nations, with 4 others due to return soon. Safety restrictions apply in all territories.
With international travel restrictions likely to be in place across the continent throughout the summer, Tennis Europe is recommending that national federations establish national tournaments or circuits for juniors, where it is deemed safe to do so.
Over 250 Tennis Europe Junior Tour events have now been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Tennis Europe is attempting to reschedule the calendar for the final quarter of the 2020 in the hope that as many postponed events as possible will be able to take place.
