Tennis Europe’s ongoing commitment to improving environmental sustainability within tennis will be taken to the next level in 2025, with the organisation confirmed to take part in the ‘Tennis for a Greener Future’ project.
The project, also known as ‘GreenTennis’, is a pioneering initiative from the Erasmus+ Programme, designed to enhance sustainability within the tennis sector across Europe. The three-year scheme aims to address the significant environmental impact of tennis by implementing sustainable practices across the tennis ecosystem, including at National Tennis Centres and at events of all levels.
Tennis Europe Vice-President Cem Tinaz commented, "We are thrilled to lead the "Tennis for a Greener Future" project, which addresses the urgent need for environmental sustainability. Tennis, with its global popularity, presents a unique opportunity to inspire eco-friendly practices and create a lasting impact. By working closely with our key partners, we will maximize our efforts to reduce the sport's environmental footprint and set new standards for sustainability in tennis. Our goal is to transform tennis into a leading example of how sports can drive meaningful environmental change."
Other key objectives of the pan-European project are in alignment with Tennis Europe’s Sustainability Strategy, launched last year, and include:
- Promotion of environmental awareness among those on-site at tennis events
- Implementation of sustainable practices
- Use of innovative tools and technology to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of tennis activities
- Collaboration and partnerships with stakeholders throughout the sport to ensure a collective approach
Work begins on the project on 1st January 2025, and regular updates will be provided on tenniseurope.org.
