A record 22 nations are taking part in the seventh edition of the European Beach Tennis Championships, which see men’s, women’s and mixed doubles events staged over three days from 8-10 August at the Yellowave Centre in Brighton (GBR).

The world #1s and reigning champions Alessandro Calbucci & Marco Garavini will be back to defend their men’s title. In 2013 the Italians managed to win the World and European Championships back to back and will be hoping to repeat the feat this season. Their toughest competition is likely to come from compatriots Luca Meliconi (the 2010/2011 runner-up) & Luca Cramarossa.

With Italy and Brazil continuing to dominate the world rankings, the other top players in action include world #16 Antomi Ramos Viera of Spain, who once again teams with Saulo Tejada, and last year’s bronze medallist Nikita Burmakin, who will be back for Russia alongside new partner Sergey Kuptsov.

The women’s event sees six of the world’s Top 12 players on a possible collision course for the title. World #3 Veronica Visani teams up with world #10 and 2012 champion Eva D’Elia for Italy. With a wealth of top players, the country also fields world #5 Sofia Cimatti with twice runner-up Federica Bacchetta, while France has high hopes of a first gold medal at the Championships with sisters Marie-Eve & Mathilde Hoarau likely to be seeded third.

As hosts, Great Britain has submitted three teams to each event.  Both Israel and Slovakia are set to participate in the tournament for the first time. 50 of the 134 players due to take part also appeared in Moscow earlier this month at the ITF World Team Championships.
