Top seeds on course for Junior Masters triumphs

There will be an all-Russian final of the girls’ 14 & Under event as Maria Bondarenko takes on Diana Shnaider. Shnaider survived Saturday’s toughest encounter, overcoming the loss of the second set before eventually outlasting top seeded Belarusian Jana Kolodynska 7-5 4-6 6-4. Her opponent’s path was much more straightforward, as Bondarenko was always in control, securing a 6-2 6-4 win over Elena Karner of Austria.

Jack Pinnington Jones became the first British player to reach a Junior Masters final since 2010, thanks to a controlled 6-4 6-3 win over second seeded Russian Igor Kudriashov. On Sunday he faces home favourite Luca Nardi, after the top seeded Les Petits As champion beat German Samofalov 6-4 6-2 in his semi-final.

European Junior Championship silver medallist Nini Dica of Romania picked up where he left off on Friday, scoring another convincing win to advance to the boys’ 16 & Under final. He conceded just five games to Matas Vasiliiauskas of Lithuania to set up a meeting with third seed Anthony Genov on Sunday. Genov was made to work somewhat harder, recovering from a set down to eventually overpower Austria’s Lukas Neumayer 4-6 6-3 6-3.

The 16 & Under girls’ final will see another European Champion silver medallist – Caijsa Hennemann – take on top seed Carole Monnet of France. The two players advanced to Sunday’s showdown with similar scorelines; Monnet beat Marketa Panackova of Czech Republic 6-1 6-3, while Sweden’s Hennemann conceded just one more game to Weronika Baszak of Poland, in the final match of the day to be completed.
