O1 Properties Cup reveals plans for 5th anniversary edition

The O1 Properties Christmas Cup U14 2018 anniversary tournament will bring the leading juniors of the world, including teams from France, Korea, Ukraine, Belarus and Bulgaria

From December 30, 2017 - January 6, 2018, the courts of Alexander Ostrovsky Tennis Academy in Khimki will host the fifth edition of the Tennis Europe category 1 tournament - O1 Properties Christmas Cup U14. The leading Russian, European and world juniors are expected to attend with the national teams of France, Korea, Ukraine, Belarus and Bulgaria amongst those signed up.

The tournament has already taken its niche in the Tennis Europe Tour with its award as the best tournament in terms of organization of the 2015 given by European Federation. In 2017 the representatives of 26 countries attended the competition: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Serbia, Sweden, France, Estonia, Poland, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, Montenegro, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Turkey, Great Britain, Netherlands, USA, Slovakia, Israel, Thailand, Canada and Bulgaria.

The opening ceremony was hosted by a well-known TV presenter and showman Ivan Traore. The highlight of the evening was an inspiring performance by gymnasts from the project Hollywood.

One of the central events of the tournament was the show-match with neon lighting effects held on the 5th of January. This match was played by the national tennis stars Vera Dushevina and Igor Kunitsyn, as well as the best former junior ?1 player, Anastasia Potapova and the participant of the tournament Hamad Medjedovic (who went on to become the singles and doubles finalist). The match was commented by specially invited famous TV host - Sofya Tartakova (Match TV).

The show-match was preceded by a masterclass called “Kids Day” with the participation of the players from the Unified Russian tennis league 10s Minitennis under the leadership of the head coach of the Alexander Ostrovsky Academy in Khimki - Alexander Zlatoustov and his professional team.

Among the 5,000 guests of the competition were: vice-presidents of the RTF Alexei Selivanenko and Vladimir Lazarev, the head coach of the CSKA tennis team Alexei Zhuk, the famous Russian tennis player Anastasia Myskina, the vice-president of the RTF, professor and PhD Anna Skorodumova, Deputy Head of the Khimki City administration on social policy, culture and sport Yuri Vaulin, and other sports and culture figures.

The most titled athlete of the tournament is the leading Academy student, Anastasia Potapova, who won twice before in both singles and doubles (2014, 2015). She shared the victory in the doubles with Olesya Pervushina (2014) and Maria Novikova (2015). In 2017 the absolute winner was again the academy player (at the time) - Maria Timofeeva, who excelled together with Oksana Selekhmetieva in the doubles category.

The absolute winner of O1 Properties Christmas Cup amongst boys became Russian players, Allen Avidzba (2014) and Timofey Skatov (2015). In 2017 another Russian tennis player Mikhail Gorokhov maintained pole position. The international duo of Tsotne Dzimistarishvili and Alejandro Turriziani-Alvarez (GEO/ESP, 3) won the doubles one title year ago.

Over the course of the next event, the team of the Alexander Ostrovsky Academy once again will seek to please the audience. Participants of the O1 Properties Christmas cup could spend their breaks in the Players’ Village. There, they can enjoy an interesting entertainment program, which offers a trip to Red Square, PlayStation Battle in football and tennis, table games, photo booth, petting zoo, cooking battles and much more.

An exhibition match with a large number of special effects and neon highlights featuring specially invited Russian tennis stars is scheduled on January 4th. This will be preceded by “Kids Day” with various master classes.

Qualifying single matches for boys and girls will begin on December 30th; the main draw matches in singles and doubles competitions will start on January 1st. The number of participants in the main draw is 48, making 24 teams for doubles. Official surface of the tournament is hard (Acrylic). Altogether 160 players from every corner of the globe will start the competition. The tournament administration will accommodate players in the Academy itself as well as at the official hotel – Double Tree by Hilton, which is located on the Leningradskoye Highway and is in convenient reach of the Academy.
